Declaration ceremony of 100 Korean-style pollution-free vehicle conversion...Realization of Carbon Neutrality in Transportation Sector

The Ministry of Environment and 10 car rental and lease companies have publicly declared that they will convert their corporate vehicles 100% into pollution-free cars (electric and hydrogen cars) by 2030 to realize carbon neutrality in the transportation sector.

Environment Minister Han Jung-ae held a ceremony to convert 10 car rental and lease companies, including Green Car, The K Automotive, Lotte Rental, Sunkyung NC Rent Car, Socar, SK Rent Car, Jaka, People Car, Hwaseong Rent Car, and Hyundai Capital, on the 25th.

Kim Hyo-jung, head of the Ministry of Environment's atmospheric future strategy division, is briefing at the Sejong Government Complex on the 23rd on the "2030 Declaration of Conversion of Pollution-Free Cars 100," which plans to convert vehicles owned by companies into electric and hydrogen cars.

"Korean-style pollution-free vehicle conversion 100" is a project that publicly declares to convert vehicles owned or leased by private companies into 100% pollution-free cars (electric vehicles and hydrogen cars) by 2030.

The project aims to induce and support private companies' voluntary conversion of pollution-free vehicles to ensure "the dissemination of eco-friendly future cars" and the uninterrupted implementation of carbon neutrality in the transportation sector.

Considering that most public institutions and companies rent and operate vehicles, the Ministry of Environment selected the car rental and lease industry as the first runner of the "Korean-style pollution-free car conversion 100" declaration event that creates demand for large-scale conversion of pollution-free cars.

Ten car rental and lease companies that participated in the declaration have about 697,000 vehicles, which is 75% of the total rental industry's vehicles, of which pollution-free cars account for about 1.7%, or 11,000 vehicles.

Ten companies will purchase about 10,000 new pollution-free cars this year and dispose of about 6,000 internal combustion locomotives.

In addition, the government plans to gradually increase the ratio of pollution-free cars to 230,000 by 2025, 630,000 by 2028, and 990,000 by 2030 to achieve 100% conversion target by 2030.

The Ministry of Environment explains that this is 25.7 percent of the government's supply target in 2030.

The Ministry of Environment plans to provide various support to participating companies by assigning subsidies first when purchasing electric vehicles and hydrogen cars and installing charging infrastructure (infrastructure) at their workplaces.

To this end, the government plans to allocate 40 percent of subsidies to corporations and institutions separately and give priority to participating companies when applying for purchase subsidies.

Starting with this declaration ceremony, the Ministry of Environment will hold a joint declaration ceremony for each industry, including manufacturing, finance, logistics, and transportation, starting in April this year.

In addition, it will continue to communicate with the industry to prepare various support and cooperation measures so that more companies can participate in the "2030 Declaration on the Transition of Pollution Free Cars 100."

Environment Minister Han Jung-ae said, "For the realization of carbon neutrality in the transportation sector, voluntary efforts by private companies to convert pollution-free cars are very important."
