The policy consultative body was formed to lead the global 5G+ industrial ecosystem under the 2021 5G+ Promotion Plan, which declared this year the first year of creating a 5G+ convergence ecosystem.
In addition to the Industrial Ecosystem Policy Council, which was launched on the same day, there are a total of seven policy consultative bodies, including five 5G core services (smart factories, real contents, digital healthcare, self-driving cars, smart cities) and 5G networks.
In order to create an early 5G+ industrial ecosystem, the policy consultative body plans to participate in the supply and demand industries and actively solve pending issues related to the 5G+ ecosystem with academia, research, professional institutions, 5G+ agencies.
In order to strengthen the competitiveness of 5G+ ecosystem components such as equipment, devices, SW, service, and security, and to form a comprehensive ecosystem (cooperation between large and medium-sized companies, cooperation between domestic companies and global companies).
At the launching meeting, members discussed how to organize and operate the policy consultative body and goals, and selected short-term and medium- and long-term tasks to be intensively reviewed by the 5G+ industrial ecosystem policy consultative body.
It also sought ways to secure global competitiveness such as international joint research on digital core technologies, response to global facts standardization, and global testing and certification, and support 5G-related companies overseas.
It also shared progress of 5G Edge Computing (MEC)-based demonstration projects and widely proposed ideas for the spread of leading services.
At the same time, through free discussions, the government discussed ways to solve difficulties needed for global leadership in industries such as R&D and system improvement, as well as plans to transform related demonstration projects such as B2B terminals and 5G security.
Lee Seung-won, policy director of the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "The 5G+ industrial ecosystem policy consultative body is a meaningful attempt by related ministries, specialized institutions and private sectors to cooperate without any boundaries."
