Gyeonggi Province is also supporting multicultural newspaper subscriptions this year for multicultural families who are in an information blind spot due to language communication difficulties.
The Multicultural Newspaper contains information on family and multicultural life, education, cooking, immigration, Korean education, welfare, childcare, etc. related to family and multicultural life in cities and counties, published twice a month, biweekly, and provided free of charge to multicultural families and related organizations by mail.
In addition, important information that multicultural families need to know (such as information on vaccination against COVID-19) is provided in multilingual languages such as Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Russian, and Thai.
The province has been conducting a multicultural newspaper support project every year since 2013, and distributed 244,833 copies to over 9,000 multicultural families and related organizations in the province last year. This year, it plans to distribute 236,000 copies annually.
Multicultural families or related organizations in 30 cities/guns (excluding Anseong-si) in the province wishing to subscribe to multicultural newspapers can apply for multicultural families for free at the Multicultural Family Support Center, Eup, Myeon-dong, Administrative Welfare Support Center in their area of residence throughout the year, or the multicultural family department of the city/gun office. Choi Young-mook, head of the Gyeonggi-do Family and Multicultural Division, said, "We will consider ways to increase access to various types of people while increasing subscriptions for multicultural families and migrant workers."
